Formulas for PKU and inherited metabolic disorders
Children born with an inherited metabolic disorder cannot break down certain amino acids, so their diet removes those amino acids and a special formula supplies the rest of the protein they need to grow. The MetaEnergy range covers eight disorders, each with an A formula for infants and a B formula from one year of age.

What is the difference between the A and B formulas?
A formulas are for infancy, from birth to one year. B formulas are protein supplements for children over one year, adolescents and, for several disorders, adults. The B formulas carry more protein per 100 g (30 g against 13 g).
Is MetaEnergy PKU free of phenylalanine?
Yes. MetaEnergy PKU A and PKU B are described as phenylalanine free formulas for the dietary management of phenylketonuria and hyperphenylalaninaemia.
What are Isoleucine 50 and Valine 50 for?
They are single amino acid medical foods with a carbohydrate base. Metabolic teams use them to add back a measured amount of isoleucine or valine, for example in MSUD diets.
